“These images have held my attention for years, sometimes decades. Some of them are instantly recognizable, some are obscure. Some come from fiction, some come from historical events. Based on the moving image, they have evolved over several generations into to something that the original witness to them might not recognize. Over multiple iterations they evolve over time in the way viruses, particles, rumors, and political movements do. An executive is expected to act decisively and rationally but they often set in motion events they cannot predict. These unintended consequences mirror the chaos of the world itself, yet that chaos also has a certain order to it. I want to make paintings reflecting this mix of order and chaos that history itself creates.”
