Morning is White

“Morning is white,
evening is black,
a gray sorrow
in between.”
- Abbas Kiarostami
Unspoken, Untold, and Unheard stories! Silent spaces, Obliterated memories, and Inaudible voices! Artists seem to remain silent, but don’t you hear them?
Focusing on the complicated nature of silence, this exhibition challenges the popular assumption on artistic expression as a form of communication, conveying meaning, and finding voice. This exhibition is an invitation to reconsider whether artists truly break the silence in their art pieces, or, on the contrary, creating art is a form of remaining silent, as artists tailor their thoughts and censor their feelings. Denying, suppressing, and eliminating their sensations, artists decide what to say, based on a judgment of not saying something else; in other words, their silence can act as an influential voice. Let’s tune our ears and dive into the ineffable beauty of the artworks on display, from still soundless living rooms to the eternal silence of personal objects after our death.
