Luis Santana

The Mynt

“As Time Stood Still” | January 15 - February 16, 2022

Luis Santana is a multidisciplinary visual artist, documentarian, and proud New York City native. His work revolves around the preservation and unveiling of authentic storytelling through themes developed by personal exploration. He explores documenting the significance of home as an integral concept of the individual, navigating the narratives within the various cultures he explores on his travels, and reimagining portraiture by highlighting the scope of the subject.

Santana’s medium of choice has been analog photography for the majority of his photo career but he has recently shifted his focus to alternative printing processes, mosaic design, textile composition, and cinematography.

Santana’s first solo exhibition, “As Time Stood Still”, reveals all of the work he created during his time in quarantine beginning in March 2020. Santana aims to collectively display his form of escape during such tumultuous times. He spent his time documenting personal subjects such as his close friends, family, and his partner, while also photographing corners and personalities of New York City that kept his appreciation for the city afloat. This exhibition consists of sixteen framed photographs and a cyanotype quilt.
