Lauren Matsumoto
High Line Nine x Sugarlift Artist Residency
September 29 - October 30
Lauren Matsumoto is a Brooklyn-based painter exploring how we relate to nature. She is known for her use of a hybrid form of painting and collage that creates a dialogue between the two mediums. Among recent honors, she was awarded by the New York Foundation of the Arts as a 2021 City Artist Corps Grantee and was an artist in residence at Sugarlift/Highline Nine. Matsumoto has an international collector base, with works held in collections across Europe, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and North America. Her work was presented in a solo show in Hong Kong, and in several notable group shows in New York City, Vancouver, Tokyo, and at the United States Embassy in Oman. In addition, she has exhibited her work across the United States in over 60 group exhibitions. In 2019, she was an artist in residence at the prestigious MASS MoCA museum studio program in North Adams, MA. She holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York and BA in Painting from Yale University.
