Georgia Dymock:

Eyes Closed, Wide Open

JD Malat Gallery

June 7 - 30, 2022

JD Malat Gallery presents their second solo exhibition with painter Georgia Dymock.

With the advance of Instagram and other algorithmic tools, we are living in a time of renewed interest in figurative painting, where this ancient media seems curiously alive in this space, Georgia utilizes the painted figure to bring about questions of identity and technology today.

Georgia’s practice challenges traditional understandings of her chosen medium as she combines digital and analog modes in image creation, where passages of flatness are an indication of her painting’s digital origins.
Physically rendered in oil paint on huge canvas supports, Georgia’s figures are composed of curling, distorted forms that contort within the confines of the canvas boundary, where their exaggerated curves are inspired by the generous, rounded shapes from Picasso’s Neo-classical Period.

Georgia is a contemporary artist based in London where she is currently getting her MFA in Painting at the Slade school of fine art, University College London.
