Sugarlift is pleased to present DE TODO AND CHILL, a solo show of paintings by Colombian artist Esteban Ocampo-Giraldo.

Born in Manizales, Colombia in 1987, Esteban Ocampo-Giraldo received his MFA from the New York Academy of Art before returning to his native country, where he currently lives and works. Ocampo-Giraldo paints from memory, depicting scenes which are at once deeply personal and universally relatable. Drawing from an amalgamation of moments rather than pinpointing a single event, he exaggerates and simplifies various elements, resulting in compositions as perfectly imbalanced as memories themselves.

With his characteristically whimsical and vibrant style, Ocampo-Giraldo imbues his paintings with a magical realism which is tinged with nostalgia. A reflection on a pair of sunglasses, a snapshot of a private moment between lovers, a pool floatie projecting its shadow: each is granted the gravity of permanence by the artist’s hand.
