Carving with Color

Sugarlift

July 7 - August 27, 2022

Tuesday-Saturday: 10:00AM to 6:00PM

Sugarlift presents “Carving with Color”, a group show featuring work by Laura Berman, Joanne Freeman, April Hannah, Liz Jaff, Sophie Klerk, Jonathan Lawes, Jon Legere, Naomi Reis, Rebecca Stern, Rene Vasquez, and Aaron Wexler.

Taking Matisse’s iconic cut-outs as its organizing principle, “Carving with Color” celebrates artists today who are using shape and color to evoke compositional harmonies. Working across collage, painting, printmaking, and sculpture, each exhibited artist embodies the theme with a unique perspective: subtracting in order to add, carving in order to create.

Sugarlift was established in 2014 in Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood and has since moved to Chelsea. The mission of the gallery has remained consistent: to help more artists create sustainable careers by connecting them with a larger audience of collectors.

Over the years, the gallery has evolved, embracing technology and pursuing new ways for people to engage with and collect artwork. They are unafraid to change the status quo as long as it benefits artists and dignifies their work.
